Andy + Roslyn {Riviera Maya, Mexico}

Thursday, May 21, 2009

I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves this time. Thank you Andy + Roslyn for inviting me to be a part of your beautiful wedding, and for being such a fun couple to photograph.

Enjoy.

Indira from éventus did an amazing job running around all day making sure everything looked beautiful and went according to plan. Venue: Dreams Puerto Aventuras Roslyn's Dress: Priscilla of Boston Hair/Make-up: Julia Macheras of Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa Andy's Suit: J-Crew Guy's Shoes: Customized Converse Stationery: designed by the groom himself!

I was psyched to learn that Andy and I share a mutual love for the Red Sox, and that Roslyn, a Yankees fan, got him Red Sox cufflinks as a gift - proof that weddings heal even the most bitter of rivalries!

One of the best things about destination weddings is that by the time the weekend is over, you really feel like you've been friends with the entire wedding party for more than only a few days days. So when Roslyn emailed me these photos that were taken with disposable cameras that were given to their guests, I couldn't resist sharing, they are so hilarious (to us at least!) Plus it's always fun to see a little behind the scenes. {click photos to see larger}

On the left I'm smiling with the ziplock bag that Indira gave me full of hand sanitizer and masks for my flight that stopped in Mexico City the next day... remember when everyone thought swine flu was going to end the world? Yes, that was just a few weeks ago.

Roslyn made me pose with the parasol because I had been torturing her and Andy with it all day! (the wind was crazy) By the way, I know I'm skinny but that huge chunk of flesh that seems to be missing from my left hip is actually my flash attached to my belt haha

Me attempting to dance, big mistake as usual!

Andy + Roslyn's Portraits {Riviera Maya, Mexico}

Monday, May 18, 2009

So any couple who's had a consultation meeting with me has heard me talk about how it usually takes some time (and a few rolls of film) for anyone to get comfortable in front of the camera and for the genuine, natural moments to start coming out. Andy + Roslyn are a clear exception to this rule. I asked them if we could shoot a 'practice roll' the evening before their wedding... and they clearly needed no practice! What follows is literally 5 minutes of shooting and 1 roll of film.

stay tuned for their wedding photos coming soon!

Val + Brett on Once Wed

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Check out Val and Brett's wedding featured today on one of my favorite blogs, Once Wed!

Val + Brett {Pioneertown, CA}

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Whoa, huge post... nothing less would do justice to Val + Brett's like-no-other-wedding-i-have-photographed celebration in Pioneertown, CA a few weeks back. A ceremony in the desert, portraits at an Old Western movie's set, and reception at a local honky tonk - yes, the definition of unconventional, and such a blast! Enjoy the photos..

Reception Venue: Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace Ceremony Site: TK IT House Val's reworked vintage dress: Hay-Lo Brett's Suit: Indochino Hair/Make-up: Al'ke Me Hairpiece/boutinierre: Whichgoose Birdcage Veil: Brenda's Bridal Veils Rings: MnM Woodworks

I started shooting a lot of Holga, so get used to it!

I love the guy on the left holding a dollar bill, and how the flower girl and ring bearer look so unhappy to be squished together! {click to see larger}

Brett asked all of the men to wear black suits in the 105 degree desert heat, which, besides being slightly masochistic, made for some pretty cool photos.

I'm pretty sure Val + Brett are on another planet in this photo.

full NY Mag spreads

Sunday, May 10, 2009

As promised, here are the full spreads from Yuli + Keith's feature in New York Magazine's Summer wedding edition. I was really excited because as you'll see, their wedding leads the 'Real Wedding Album' section of the magazine. Click to see larger images.

Polaroids from Mexico

Friday, May 8, 2009

Just got back a few days ago from Andy + Roslyn's amazing wedding in Mexico. They were such a blast, and shot tons of polaroids. Andy just emailed me a bunch, I look like a dork in every one of them.

Left to right are Indira, of éventus Planning, me (in the back), Andy the groom, Roslyn the bride, and my friend Chris, who is a Super 8 videographer.

Many more pictures to come from this awesome wedding!

Thone - Luang Prabang, Laos

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Now that I'm back from 4 month trip to Thailand/Laos and finally getting around to developing the film, I'll be posting random shots that inspire me.

This is a photo of Thone, a novice monk I spent a couple of days with at That Phousi in Luang Prabang, Laos, with one of the temple dogs. I miss the peacefulness of That Phousi, which is the holiest temple in all of Luang Prabang and located at the top of Phousi mountain.
