Jose Villa Workshop

Friday, October 31, 2008

A few weeks ago I went up to Pittsfield, Vermont for a workshop with Jose Villa. Jose's a really amazing photographer (one of American Photo's 10 best in the world!), and his style has been a huge influence on my own photography. It was peak foliage season up in Vermont and the leaves were incredibly beautiful, making a great backdrop for our model shoot. Luckily the rain cleared away just in time for sunset. Check out some of my favorites below.

My friend Katherine came up to Vermont for the weekend too. We tried on hats at the "Scotland by the Yard" store.

Yuli + Keith

Sunday, October 26, 2008

A couple of months ago I photographed Yuli + Keith's wedding at the Beaver Del in upstate New York. It was one of the most fun, unique, and beautiful weddings I've ever been to, and the most amazing thing about it was that it was almost entirely "do-it-yourself". Everything from the giant "cookie-table" (apparently a Pennsylvania tradition), to the campfire with smores, to the more than 1000 handmade paper cranes, was prepared beautifully and a dream to photograph. On top of that, Yuli + Keith's family and friends were so much fun and treated us like we were guests. Also, their food was delicious! I hope these pictures show how fun and unique their wedding really was.

Krista + Eric

Monday, October 20, 2008

Krista + Eric were married last month at the Larkfield Manor in Long Island and were a lot of fun to work with. We all went to a beautiful spot by the beach for portraits and I love their group shots in front of the lighthouse. The highlight of the night was probably Eric's rendition of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline"!

Raquel + Xavier

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Raquel and Xavier's wedding was last month at My Moon Restaurant in Williamsburg. They had a cool urban-industrial vibe at the reception, and I tried to bring that out in their photos which we did at an old brickyard in Williamsburg. It was the first time that I had ever photographed in this type of setting, but I really like how the pictures came out. It was rainy and the sun had practically set by the time we started their group photos which gave them some nice dramatic light.

Natalie Rios and Indira Marte did an amazing job planning the event and coordinating the beautiful details.

Jim + Eileen

Monday, October 6, 2008

Do you remember that first Saturday in September when the leftovers from Hurricane Hannah just DRENCHED New York? I have never seen a combination of rain and wind like this on a normal day, let alone one where I was photographing a wedding... on the beach.

Jim and Eileen got married at the Bridgehampton Beach Club in the Hamptons, New York. I think many couples would have let the ridiculous weather put a damper on their day, but Jim and Eileen took it all in stride and were more than happy to do some photos on the beach. Their wedding ended up being a ton of fun, and as tough as it was to photograph in, I think the weather really added a lot of character to their photos and made for some really nice light.

It got so rainy that we had to do some of their group photos with umbrellas!
